Service Description
4 weeks of teapots. TEAPOT - noun: a vessel with a body, lid, spout and a handle in which tea is brewed and from which it is served. One of the quintessential forms in functional pottery-making. Developed, from clay, originally in China by the Yuan dynasty of Kulblai Khan in the thirteenth century. A core vessel in teaware and a core component in the social-cultural ritual of making tea the world over. It symbolizes friendship, of telling stories and confidences. It also represents treasured moments of solitude - everyone should have one and every potter should at least have made one! This series of classes looks at teapots and teapots only. The making method is throwing and joining thrown components - you need to be a competent (but not expert!) thrower for this not to be an exercise in frustration. The focus is on the making, not the glazing. We will discuss glazing but this series is time limited and so the glazing will be up to you. Most of all - it'll be fun!
