Next Steps with Catherine

10 week intermediate class

  • Started 20 Sept
  • 300 New Zealand dollars
  • Dillons Point Road

Service Description

This is a ten-week course that offers participants an opportunity to collect some more skills and knowledge in both throwing and/or hand building processes. Participants are free to choose what they want to work on independently and are guided through extending their skills, focusing on techniques specific to their project. The course will review which clays are best for what kinds of projects and outcomes and what processes are required for particular kinds of finishes – glaze firing temperatures, terra sigilata, slips and surface decorations and so on. Get ready – ten weeks will fly by! Catherine worked for years as a Registered Art Therapist in mental health and end of life care. She gave clinical work up to focus on her own art practice in clay and ceramic five years ago. During that time, she attended the Ceramic programme at Otago Polytech and taught pottery at Auckland Studio Potters and The Clay Centre in Ellerslie, Auckland. She has completed two residencies at Driving Creek Pottery and moved to Blenheim a year ago to pursue a dream of setting up an artists’ retreat along similar lines to Driving Creek.
